Black startups in Canada require greater attention. While the efforts of key community players have yielded increased funding and a few notable successes for Black-led companies in the country, significant disparities persist. Our analysis shows that funding for Black entrepreneurs represents less than 1% of total venture capital funding in Canada. 

 

While the numbers are shockingly low, this also represents a substantial and expanding opportunity. A growing Black population, coupled with a rising entrepreneurial spirit, underscores the immense potential that remains untapped.

This report takes steps to highlight the key opportunities and quantify the actions needed to support a healthy and inclusive venture ecosystem.
